Published on October 8, 2008 By Fortunato In Stardock Software

What is the future of Object Dock now that Apple has apparently been awarded a patent on it?

Unless Stardock is using the exact same techonology and code that Apple is using, it shouldn't affect Object Dock. If SD is forced to abandon ObjectDock, then there will be hell to pay.

But Apple didn't invent it, and I know Brad Wardell will strongly attest to this (because it was from him I learnt this fact ).

Its been around for a while, its just only been popularised by Apple but it was hardly invented by them.

It doesn't matter who invented anything.  It only matters who has the most money and slickest lawyers.

Plus the fact the basic idea was used around 24 years ago, this patent took such a long time to go through that it should be concidered invaild anyways.

From what I have read it covers only the maximizing type of dock when you hover over it with the mouse.  But even that I'm sure Stardock can fight.

Wouldn't it be interesting if the magnigfying option was removed from OD and then offered as a free user plug-in?
